Week 3
This past week I started with little fanfare. My youngest had school. My oldest got a few job offers. My wife was busier with her job than I’ve seen her. She was fried by the end of the week. I helped by making dinner every night and ensuring she had coffee in the morning and ate something.
A story idea popped into my head while we did our afternoon meditation. I spent most of the week thinking my way through it and understanding its direction. The images in my head scared me, so there’s that.
Hello and welcome to my substack. My name is Brian Baker, and I write horror and thriller stories.
As I said above, my oldest received a couple of job offers. They graduated in June and have put in at least 25 applications. They opened an account on Indeed and couldn’t find anything. The whole “people don’t want to work” thing, it’s bullshit. They’re not hiring. All these places they’ve put in applications say they are, but they’re not. It’s every place too. McDonald’s, warehouses, retail. They’ve put in at all of these kinds of places and haven’t heard a thing.
But I digress. My youngest ended their third term doing well in school. My wife is busier than hell. She started a new project this week. She’s been swamped all year.
As for me, I haven’t had work. I’m not getting any shifts through the two jobs I have. I will probably be doing Instacart and Doordash again.
I want to get some regular work. If anyone knows of a place hiring bartenders in Northern Utah, please send them my way. I have 24 years of experience behind the bar.
I started the new project on Friday. I’ll continue it until it’s done.
As for reading, watching, and gaming…I finished reading Such Sharp Teeth this past week. It’s a great werewolf story. I saw John Wick Chapter 4 with my oldest on Thursday. It was awesome. I continue to play World of Warcraft with my wife. We play Horde on the Zul’Jin server. I got a blog post written Monday, Wednesday, and Friday on BrianBBaker.com.
I can’t think of anything else. I’ll leave it at that.
Have a good week and I’ll see you back here next week.
